🎫 Golden Ticket

The oio school season is approaching, and as per tradition, to support and encourage creativity, we reward a free ticket to the winner of our Golden Ticket Competition.

This year’s brief was: send us an apple.

So we actually received a ton of apples (who would have thought?), including an actual Pink Lady in the mail 🤯. While we’re not able to present all of them due to space and length, we’d like to share some of our favorite entries.

File System Poetry

Shivangi’s “Apple Experience“ is, with her own words in fact, “not an apple.“ It is an actual poem exploring life and identity from an apple’s point of view, completely built upon the naming convention of a file system, all of which packed into a .dmg. As the viewer navigates through the layered folders, they experience the ponderings of existence, understanding that the journey towards being is becoming.

We were touched by the seemingly simple yet profound approach to the storytelling that we decided to reward Shivangi the Golden Ticket. Welcome to oio school, Shivangi!

The Apple Search

Kenwyn hid her red apple away amongst a gigantic pile of pears — and requires our assistance to seek and dig it up. Written with p5, Kenwyn’s Apple Search uses your computer’s webcam to locate and track the movement of your “snout“ as you search through the field of fruits.

The Growing Applet

Aleksandra took a rain check with us on her apple, explaining that apples don’t ripen till October from where she is at. However, she did create a “cellular progress bar of sorts“ to track her applet’s growth (one from an old tree in her backyard). With images of tissue samples taken with a toy microscope, Aleksandra’s generated “cells“ stimulate the progress of the becoming of an apple — as time passes, the cells slowly gravitate towards the center, turning redder and redder by the day, the colour showing on the applet's skin.

A Star Is Born?

Sabrina introduces us to Mela: a young, ambitious Cosmic Crisp apple on the journey towards becoming the Best Apple of 2025. Traveling all the way across Italy, she finds herself at a CONAD market in Milan, hitting the big stage. During the competition period, Mela hosted live streamings of her life events, where fans would log in and send love. Though just a few steps from reaching to become the champion, Mela is definitely one apple to keep your eyes on.
